LoadSafe New Zealand
New Zealand's Specialist for GVM and axle weight limit Up-Rating.
Hello a Burstner this week in for a much needed improvement in ride comfort, along with an increase in Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM).![]()
To the front axle, VB Coil springs were fitted along with a set of Koni 'Active' Frequency Selective Dampening struts for the best possible ride on spring suspension. The coil springs have lifted the front 30mm and will stop it riding on the bump stops, the top of the old struts are quite polished from contact with the bump stops.![]()
The rear axle was fitted with VB Semi air suspension. The gap between the bump stop and the top of the leaf spring was less than 10mm, a good indication that the rear axle weight is close to or over weight. Little gap also creates poor ride comfort as with every bump in the road the bump stop is impacted.![]()
This Burstner weighted in with a total weight of 3635 kg, with the front axle weighing 1630 kg and the rear axle 2005 kg.![]()
With the fitment of these VB suspension products, and the fitment of Borbet alloy rims, the GVM has increased from 3850 to 4200 kg, while the front axle maximum allowable weigh has increased from 1850 to 2100 kg while the rear axle has increased from 2000 to 2250 kg.

VB coil springs with Koni 'Active' front struts / shock absorbers for the front axle for the improvement in ride and handling they offer. The front springs had sagged so was often riding on the bump stops, which is a common problem.
While the rear axle got fitted with VB Semi air suspension, which also improves the ride, especially since there was little to no gap between the springs and the bump stops.
Along with a set of Borbet CWD alloy rims in Glossy polished black.![]()
The combination of these upgrades has enable the Gross Vehicle Mass to increase from, 3500kg to 4200 kg, with the front axle increasing to 2100kg, and the rear axle increasing from 2000 to 2250kg maximum allowable weight.![]()

This AutoTrail Tracker Frontier RB had VB Coil Springs fitted to the front axle along with Koni Frequency Selective Dampening struts. The original Fiat springs had sagged till it was sitting on the bump stops, a common problem. A quick way to determine if the springs have sagged is to measure from ground to underside of the front jacking point, if around 220/230 mm (with 225/75R16 tyres) its sitting on the bump stops or close to it. The front is now approx 45mm higher and suspension travel has returned. The Koni front struts provide high quality ride comfort with their ability to absorb varying road conditions. ![]()
The rear axle was also upgraded with VB Semi air suspension with VB's new digital remote control for a complete upgrade all round for ride comfort and handling with also the ability to raise the rear up for extra ground clearance when required.
